How mache ich anscheinend alles richtig.

Was soll das bitte.

Don Hitchcock Source: Adapted from information from Katzman PC. My thanks as always. Wikipedia Bone tools from l'abri Castanet I. Wikipedia The elements of jewellery, abundant from this age on, are often produced in series, as at l'abri Castanet.

Suspended objects are the most numerous, supplemented by headbands and bracelets. The material mainly used is ivory whose preparation is fully controlled from the beginning. Coming next are animal teeth such as fox canines and deer teeth, and finally shells, reindeer antler, with more rarely bone and various minerals such as steatite and fossils.

Delluc identifies this painting as being from l'Abri Blanchard. It has certainly been known for a long time, it is not recently dug up at Castanet II. This sort of mislabelling by news outlets often happens when a new discovery is made, but in this case, as also often happens, the new photo is much better than the one I had, though I wish the extra piece see below had been included in the better photo.

Display at l'Abri Labattut. This very useful summary of the main art discoveries in the Castel-Merle complex lists the horse as coming from l'Abri Blanchard. The sizes of the two rocks shown are given as x 70 cm and 38 x 28 cm. The authority given is B and G. While this could have been a natural occurrence due to normal processes of weathering and erosion, the possibility exists that it could have been because of an ash fall from a volcano settling on top of the rock overhang, which subsequently provided the impetus for the collapse when the ash became wet and thus heavy from following rain.

Tephra columns and plumes reached 20 km into the atmosphere and spread over wide areas aided by wind. Puy is a geological term used locally in the Auvergne, France for a volcanic hill. See the quote below from Vernet et al.

Strombolian phases built numerous cones and poured out long lava flows which disorganized the drainage pattern. Some volcanoes have been directly TL dated: Peyrony described 2 Aurignacian levels.

The first one stands on the bed-rock and shows split based points and has been attributed to the aurignacian I Peyrony On top, was an Aurignacian II level that contained a lithic industry with blades, notches, scrapers, and burins, a poor bone industry with flattened lozenge-shaped points and awls, and engraved limestone blocks. Faunal remains were rare. Reindeer dominated, followed by horse, bovids, wolf, fox, and brown bear. Below this, resting on bedrock, an Aurignacian I level yielded a blade industry very rich in scrapers and poor in burins, with a number of other tool types.

At this level, the fauna was dominated by reindeer and included roe deer, horse, bovids, deer, wild boar, ibex, lion, hyena, wolf, fox, wild cat, lynx, brown bear, and seal. Peyronyquoted in Armand A and C are the archaeological levels recognised by Peyrony. Right Our stratigraphic analysis in the same sector showing existence of only one level on bedrock.

Arrow indicates engraved and red-stained block K. This engraving of a vulva comes from Abri Castanet. The block of limestone was broken up into smaller chunks to be lifted off, when the engraving was discovered.

The inhabitants of Abri Castanet hunted reindeer, horse and bison. There appears to be a cord leading out from the centre of it, something which does not appear on any vulva engravings I have seen. What it looks like is a placenta, as shown here. My thanks to Ralph Frenken for pointing this out. The principal engraved figure A with macro views of engraving B and surface preparation C. In the excavation, red ochre was abundant, there were many cupules dug into stones, there were many ringed stones see comment belowengravings of phallic and vulval designs.

There were remains of paintings on stones fallen from the roof, and there was a major industry in flint, bone, and reindeer antler, as well as workshops for the preparation of the equivalents of the basket beads so evident at Abri Blanchard.

Etymology[ edit ] The name Maastricht is derived from Latin Traiectum ad Mosam or Traiectum Mosaemeaning 'crossing at the Meuse', and referring to the bridge built by the Romans.

The Latin name first appears in medieval documents [12] and it is not known whether this was Maastricht's official name during Roman times. A resident of Maastricht is referred to as Maastrichtenaar whilst in the local dialect it is either Mestreechteneer or, colloquially, Sjeng derived from the formerly popular French name Jean.

Of a later date are Palaeolithic remains, between 8, and 25, years old. Celts lived here around BC, at a spot where the river Meuse was shallow and therefore easy to cross. It is not known when the Romans arrived in Maastricht, or whether the settlement was founded by them.

The bridge was an important link in the main road between Bavay and Cologne. Roman Maastricht was probably relatively small. Remains of the Roman road, the bridge, a religious shrine, a Roman batha granarysome houses and the 4th-century castrum walls and gates, have been excavated. According to legend, the Armenian -born Saint ServatiusBishop of Tongerendied in Maastricht in and was buried there along the Roman road, outside the castrum.

According to Gregory of Tours it was bishop Monulph who, aroundbuilt the first stone church on the grave of Servatius, the present-day Basilica of Saint Servatius. The town was an important centre for trade and manufacturing.

Merovingian coins minted in Maastricht have been found in many places throughout Europe. In the town was plundered by the Vikings. In the 10th century it briefly became the capital of the duchy of Lower Lorraine. During the 12th century the town flourished culturally. The provosts of the church of Saint Servatius held important positions in the Holy Roman Empire during this era. The city's two main churches were largely rebuilt and redecorated.

Maastricht Romanesque stone sculpture and silversmithing are regarded as highlights of Mosan art. Maastricht painters were praised by Wolfram von Eschenbach in his Parzival.

Around the same time, the poet Henric van Veldeke wrote a legend of Saint Servatius, one of the earliest works in Dutch literature. Unlike most Dutch towns, Maastricht did not receive city rights at a certain date. These developed gradually during its long history.

Soon afterwards the first ring of medieval walls were built.

The Spanish and Dutch garrisons became an important factor in the city's economy. For over fifty years the Spanish crown took over the role previously held by the dukes of Brabant in the joint sovereignty over Maastricht.

During this siege, Vaubanthe famous French military engineer, developed a new strategy in order to break down the strong fortifications surrounding Maastricht. His systematic approach remained the standard method of attacking fortresses until the 20th century. On 25 Junewhile preparing to storm the city, captain-lieutenant Charles de Batz de Castelmorealso known as the comte d'Artagnanwas killed by a musket shot outside Tongerse Poort.

However, neither the Dutch nor the Belgians agreed to this and the arrangement was not implemented until the Treaty of London. During this period of isolation Maastricht developed into an early industrial town. Plate commemorating the liberation, 14 Sept. Maastricht retained a distinctly non-Dutch appearance during much of the 19th century and it was not until the First World War that the city was forced to look northwards.

However, being wedged between Germany and Belgium, it received large numbers of refugees, putting a strain on the city's resources.

Later, this name appeared in several variants: For about four centuries, the city remained a battleground between the Byzantine Empirethe Kingdom of Hungary and the Bulgarian Empire.

He also refortified the city's ancient walls, allowing the Despotate to resist the Ottomans for almost 70 years. During this time, Belgrade was a haven for many Balkan peoples fleeing Ottoman rule, and is thought to have had a population of 40, to 50, people.

History of Ottoman Serbia Belgrade in Seven decades after the initial siege, on 28 Augustthe fort was finally captured by Ottoman Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent and hissoldiers and over ships subsequently, most of the city was razed to the ground and its entire Orthodox Christian population was deported to Istanbul[40] to an area that has since become known as the Belgrade forest.

The development of Belgrade architecture after can be divided into four periods. In the first phase that lasted from to the dominant architectural style was still the Balkan or rather Balkan-Ottoman one.

At the same time the interest for Central and Western European architecture started to grow. Between and a rise in the construction of neoclassicist and baroque buildings could be observed. One of the buildings from that time is the one in which the pedagogical museum is located today. The third phase — was characterized by serious attempts of turning towards romanticism, which implied the combination of romanticist and gothic architecture with that from the early period of the renaissance.

Typical of the last quarter of the 19th century was the eclecticist style on the basis of the renaissance and baroque. New construction projects were typical for the Christian quarters and not so much for the Muslim ones. Until the number of Belgrade quarters decreases continuously, mainly as a consequence of the reduction of Muslim population.

An Ottoman city map from that year counts only 9 quarters mahale. The names of only five are known today: The only stipulation was that the Ottoman flag continue to fly over the fortress alongside the Serbian one. Serbia's de facto independence dates from this event. Of great importance was also the construction of political and cultural institutions as well as parks. However, Istanbul — the capital city of the state to which Belgrade and Serbia officially still belonged — at the same time underwent quite similar processes of urbanisation.

Yet by the population had grown to more than 80, and by the outbreak of World War I init had surpassed thecitizens, not counting Zemun which then belonged to Austria-Hungary.
